For this edition of the blog I’m going to look at my favorite recordings from 2016.

A Cure for Loneliness – Peter Wolf

Former front man for the J Geils Band offers a stellar collection of Rock, Funk and R&B. Check out the Bluegrass version of Love Stinks.

Circlin’ Back – The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

Recorded at the Ryman Auditorium (home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974) with a start-studded guest list to help them celebrate 50 years together.  The circle remains unbroken!

Cleopatra – The Lumineers

They took America by storm with Ho Hey in 2012. I bought the CD and it played non-stop for many days. Cleopatra is no exception. Stellar tunes from the Colorado Folkies.

Coming Home – Leon Bridges

Do you like old-school R&B? Then get this disc.

Fitz & the Tantrums – Fitz & the Tantrums

The group's 3rd album is sure to please and we’ll be hearing HandClap in sporting arenas for the next few decades.

For the Good Times: A Tribute to Ray Price – Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson covers the work of Country legend Ray Price, nuff said.

Good Times! – The Monkees (Me & Magdelena)

Nearly every cut on this CD has the Monkees upbeat, pop sound that we’ve come to know and love, but Me & Magdalena breaks the mold. Bremerton’s own Ben Gibbard wrote the tune. It’s awesome.

The Complete BBC Sessions – Led Zeppelin

A classic, remastered with extra tracks, need I say more?

Shouted, Written Down & Quoted – Greensky Bluegrass

I’ve loved this Midwest, Bluegrass, jam band since I saw them at Bumbershoot 5 years ago.

Side Pony – Lake Street Dive

One of my favorite bands, Rachael Price has a voice that will send chills up and down your spine, Jazz, R&B, Pop, they do it all!

Signs of Light – The Head and the Heart

Seattle’s own Folk-Rockers knock it out of the park with their 3rd studio album.

Sound & Color – Alabama Shakes

The Shakes find the sweet spot between Rock, R&B, Soul and American Roots music.

The Bottom Line Archive – Doc Watson

Long lost recordings of Doc at the Bottom Line. Not to be missed.

The Ties That Bind: The River Collection – Bruce Springsteen

The Boss played Key Arena in March, a 4 hour tour de force featuring every song from The River plus another 15 songs!

Wynonna & the Big Noise - Wynonna & the Big Noise

Wynonna is Country Royalty and she rocks harder than anyone in music today!

The library has copies of all these titles so head on down to your local branch and check out a few.
