I am a librarian of many trades. By day, I am a book cheerleader; an advocate for youth, a storyteller extraordinaire, a juggler of many projects and meetings; and a research fiend, amongst many other things that might come to your mind when you think of a librarian, and a heap of things that probably don’t. By night (and sometimes early morning if I am feeling super motivated!), I am a concert-goer; a writer; a book hoarder; an instrument learner; a hiker; a crafter; a wannabe movie-enthusiast; and in an on-again, off-again love/hate relationship with the gym. I am always trying new things, and exploring new hobbies. That is why I am so excited to share with anyone and everyone I can about Kitsap Regional Library’s goal-setting challenge for the Summer Learning program.

We are challenging you (yes, YOU!), to inspire yourselves, and others, by setting a goal for yourself for the summer. You have from June 1st to August 31st to set a goal, something you want to accomplish, or a skill you want to work on, and have fun with it over the summer months. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to knit; or maybe you’ve had an amazing plot for the next bestseller in your mind, and you’ve been waiting for the right time to start writing it? That time is now! Whatever your goal might be, grab one of the entry forms from the new summer ‘Inspire’, or find it online from the link below, and jot it down. Then think of ways you can start working on that goal so you are ready to begin on the first of June. You can watch YouTube videos; search information online; ask friends and family members for help; take a class; plan for an amount of time you would like to practice your skill each day; find a book (I know where some free ones are that you can borrow); ask a professional. There are countless ways to get started, but once you do, we want to hear how it went! On the same form, there is a space for you to tell us your own unique story on how you worked towards your goal.

But, there’s even more! Not only do you get a humongous pat on the back for all your hard work and success, not to mention a huge accomplishment under your belt,  you also get to enter your story into a raffle drawing for a chance to win one of five baskets (description and contents below). I know what you are thinking, ‘this is almost too good to be true…learning new things, making time for yourself, AND a chance to win free stuff? Where do I sign up?’ I’m glad you asked, you can get started right here. One last very important thing, this is open to all-ages, from 0-199 years old; you are never too young or too old to learn something new. I am already giddy with excitement for all the ways you are going to inspire others by inspiring yourself. Have fun!
