These days it feels like everyone is under a time crunch! School projects to finish, events to attend, and enough demands in your day to feel like you’re running out of time. At times like this, it can be difficult to fit the library in, even if you want to. So, here are three ways you can make your library visit a speedy (and fun!) part of your day.
1. Create a Username: Your library barcode is the key to access for all library services, but keeping your card handy can be difficult. Instead, create a username and save yourself time! Usernames can be used instead of cards to check out your items at self-checkout machines or for easy access into your account in the online catalog. Just login to “My Account” at the top of KRL.org, then scroll down to “Change Logon” to set your username.
2. Pay Fees Online: No time to stand in line to pay for lost or damaged items? Skip the desk and pay your fees online. When you log into your account online, you'll see a sidebar to the right of the screen that tells you how much you owe. Click on that link to be taken to the Fees page, where you can select "Pay Fees Now" from the bottom of the list. This way, you can take care of your fees whenever and wherever you have time. Having trouble? Make sure you’re visiting the full site, not the mobile catalog.
3. Changing Hold Pickup Location Online: Know you've got a book on hold at Kingston, but that you're going to be in Bainbridge for the next week? Change the pickup location of your hold online. While looking at your list of holds in your account online, choose the checkbox next to items you wish to change the location for, and then scroll to the bottom and press "Change Pickup Location". Select the new location and you're all set! Plan ahead though; it can take a few days for the item to reach its new location.
Bonus Tip: The Library's a great place to spend time, so schedule yourself a longer visit every now and again to browse the stacks, chat with our great staff, or take in a fun program or event. Check out our online calendar or pick up a copy of Inspire to learn more about what's going on at the Library!
