If you have ever wanted to write a book, now is the time!  November is known as NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).  According to its creators, NaNoWriMO is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing…Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.”  The goal for participants is to try to write a 50,000-word novel by the end of November.

Many successful novels had their start as NaNoWriMo projects, including these bestsellers:

The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

As lovers of the written word and those who write them, the library is eager to help you reach your writing goals.  There are writer's groups for different ages that meet regularly at various locations:

  • Bainbridge Young Writer’s Group for grades 4-7 meets every month on the third Tuesday from 3:30-5:00.  Join us to write and learn new tips! Bring pieces you're currently working on to get feedback from a peer group if you wish, or start something new.
  • Bainbridge Library hosts a Teen Writers Group for grade 7-12.  The Open Writing Space is available in the downstairs conference room every Thursday, except the 2nd Thursdays of the month when we have our instructor-led Teen Writers Workshop from 3:30-5:00.   Bring your laptops or your notebooks and join other teens to meet up and write in this informal setting.
  • Kingston Writer’s Group for adults meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30-7:30pm.  Enjoy a friendly, supportive atmosphere to encourage writing. We want to read what you want to write: poetry, nonfiction, fiction, memoir... Beginners welcome
