Designed to reach our neighbors and communities in economically and geographically isolated areas, our Bookmobile Service has been part of our story since 1947. Over the past few years, we have seen a decrease in our community’s use of this service. We have also experienced a rise in unexpected costs related to operation of this very unique vehicle, with repairs and logistical challenges disrupting the schedule and making service increasingly unreliable. Anticipating the end-of-life of our bookmobile, we announced in August of 2017 that we would be analyzing the way we currently provide service. In November, we began a year-long study to explore what comes next. How might we provide service to our community in new and better ways, while being responsible stewards of community funds?

Unfortunately, this service has reached its end-of-life earlier than we anticipated and we are removing this service option as we continue to work on new solutions. If you are a patron currently using bookmobile service, our Mobile Services team will be contacting you to discuss what your current service options are as we transition. The discontinuation of Bookmobile Service will not impact our Home Delivery patrons. If you think you might qualify for this service visit our home delivery page for details and an application.

It is one of our shared values to always deliver excellence in the service we provide our community, and we are excited for what’s next. When our study is complete and new service is in place, we will update our community through Inspire, on social media and here on our website.
