2006 and 2007 ProjectsNew BookmobileThe Foundation raised $135,000 to purchase a new bookmobile to replace the current vehicle which is 24 years old and badly in need of retirement. The new “rolling branch” will have double the collection size, online access, and expanded service throughout the County. Classics2Go CollectionThis is a paperback collection of the most popular titles that high school students are encouraged and required to read. They are always available for that student who wants who wants a classic at the “last minute” as well as for older readers who want a “really good read”. Literacy Council Spelling BeeThe Foundation sponsored a team of KRL spellers in the Literacy Council’s spelling bee. The spellers had a wonderful time representing the Foundation and the Library and won second place. Adult Winter ReadingEvery time that an adult reads or listens to an audio book for ten hours, they receive a prize and become eligible for the grand prize of a bookstore gift certificate. Jazz and Blues Music and Classic Foreign FilmsThe Jazz and Blues music collection and the Classic Foreign film collection were enhanced through Foundation funding. National Registry FilmsTwo copies of each available film on the National Film Registry were purchased for the Library through Foundation funding. This is a very popular and high demand collection. |
Kits for KidsThe Foundation funded the purchase of 40 “Kits for Kids, book club collections of interest to children in 3rd to 8th grade who want to participate in book discussion groups. Summer Reading ProgramThe Foundation has always helped fund the summer reading activities at the Library. The theme for 2006 was “Paws, Claws, Scales, and Tales”. 7,800 children participated in the Library’s reading challenge and 6,681 attended programs. Contributing to the success of the program was community support through the Foundation, Friends of the Library groups, Rotary Clubs, and Lions Clubs who all generously donated to purchase paperbacks as reading incentives. The County Commissioners and the Foundation also provided the President’s Hall for the “Super Reader Party”. Opera PreviewsThe Foundation helps sponsor the Bremerton Opera Preview, lectures before regional opera productions, programs on great singers in the past, and concerts by voice students from local colleges and Seattle Opera’s young artists. Gala—“Libraries for a Lifetime”The Foundation's fourth annual Gala, "Libraries for a Lifetime", was held at the Poulsbo Branch Library on Saturday, September 29th. |
