Trends Affecting Kitsap Regional Library

A number of significant trends were identified through public meetings,
individual surveys, and stakeholder interviews.

  • High satisfaction with the library. 79% of Kitsap County residents rated “Quality of Public Library” as Good or Excellent.
  • KRL is a cherished county resource even though many readily admit to not fully understanding or being knowledgeable about the depth and breadth of available library resources.
  • Heavy usage of Library resources and services in comparison to other library systems around the state. (2nd highest materials turnover rate in state, 4.63 times per year)
  • Impacts of technology are great and ever increasing. Many recommendations for improvements were gathered that included improving the “user-friendliness” of both the Kitsap Regional Library website and catalog (both are currently being improved).
  • Population growth (1-2% each year) and increasing diversity within the county will require changes and additions to existing library services.
  • Financial support for libraries is provided primarily through property taxes (94%), and budget growth is limited to 1% per year under statewide I-747.
