The Kitsap Regional Library Foundation
Special Events Why Donate How to Donate Planned Gifts Contact the KRL Foundation
The KRL Foundation raises, manages, and allocates funds to support library programs which benefit all the communitieis that make up Kitsap County. The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Kitsap Regional Library and was established as a non-profit organization in 1991.
Tax limitations, growth in library use, and rising costs have made it harder for the Library to provide quality service to its communities. The Foundation's challenge is to seek funding to enhance library services and programs beyond the scope of tax-based funding.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation is qualified to receive tax-deductible donations. The Foundation looks forward to future projects and to its continued support of the Library in its efforts to provide the best possible service to the citizens of Kitsap County. Please join us in making a difference by choosing one of the many options to donate offered on this site.

Foundation Projects Third Graders to the Library: Students are significantly less likely to drop out of high school if they achieve a high level of reading comprehension by the time they reach the third grade. KRL has piloted a project in South Kitsap to bring every third grader to the library. Any student who does not have a library card is encouraged to apply for one. All students who participate are given a bag containing a paperback book, a bookmark and a pencil, and a lunch is served for the students.
KRL would like to expand this program throughout the county and bring every third grade student in Kitsap to their nearest library branch. To do that, the KRL Foundation is building a partnership with the county’s Kiwanis clubs to support the program.
Your gift of $25 provides three students with a paperback book, bookmark, pencil and a lunch.
Summer Reading Program: More than 7,000 Kitsap children and teens participate in KRL’s Summer Reading Program each year. More than 4,000 of them complete the program by reading at least 10 hours during the summer. Children who spend as little as 10 hours reading during summer break retain the reading level they achieved by the end of the previous school year, while those who read less fall behind in their reading level.
Summer Reading Program events encourage children to read, and each child who completes the program is given a paperback book and a ticket to the County Fair. Each child who reads at least 20 hours is eligible to attend a “Super Reader” party at the end of the summer.
The KRL Foundation purchases the books that are given to the children and teens who complete the program, something KRL, as a government entity, cannot do.
Your gift of $150 provides books for 25 children in our summer reading program.
West Sound Reads: One of the great joys is having the ability to hear a noted author read from their work and answer questions about it.
KRL in partnership with local independent booksellers has created the West Sound Reads program, which brings about four well-known authors to Kitsap County each year to do a public reading and Q&A session. The KRL Foundation has supported West Sound Reads by paying the cost of renting the venue for the presentation.
Your gift of $300 pays to rent the North Kitsap Auditorium for a author’s presentation.
One Book, One Community: Starting in 2008, KRL has participated in the observation of the Month of the Book (October) by sponsoring One Book, One Community, which encourages all Kitsap residents to read the same book, to discuss its meaning through a variety of programs and to incorporate live theater performance and movies that focus on the same theme into the discussion process.
Creating programs for One Book, One Comunity, is a major undertaking and comes with a significant cost. The KRL Foundation has supported KRL by providing a generous subsidy for the One Book, One Community Programming.
Your gift of $1,250 would pay to bring Jamie Ford, author of the 2010 One Book selection “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet,” here to discuss his book with a Kitsap audience.
Baby You Were Born to Read: Collaboration between Harrison Hospital, United Way of Kitsap County and the Kitsap Regional Library provides a finger play book and baby’s first library card to every baby born at Harrison Medical Center. The KRL Foundation provides funds for the books.
Your gift of $75 would pay for xx finger play books for babies born in Kitsap County.
KRLF Presents
It can be a joy to give to the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation. The foundation’s special fundraising events include hosted dinners in private homes with notable authors (Dinner with an Author) as well as a variety of other events which involve all or some of the following: authors, writers, poets, artists, food, drinks, music, film, Powerpoint presentations, chocolate and Santa Claus. But one thing they all include is fun. See a list of the KRL Foundation’s special events.
Why Donate Public funds aren’t enough to meet the demands on our Library system which has seen increased use while revenue growth has stagnated. As our population changes and grows, the demand for more books, materials, and programs continues.
Your gift to The Kitsap Regional Library Foundation provides funds for the books, materials, and programs that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. Your contribution preserves - and enhances - one of Kitsap's greatest community resources.
The Foundation's fundraising efforts focus on three key areas: collections, programs, and facilities.
The Collection Fund supports the purchase of current fiction and non-fiction for children and adults, literary classics from all periods, large-print books, DVDs and other media, homework and reference support, and books written in languages other than English.
The Program Fund supports Third Graders to the Library, Summer Reading, West Sound Reads and One Book, One Community.
The Building Fund supplements KRL’s funds for on-going facilities maintenance, landscaping, furniture, etc.
Ways to Give There are several ways to donate to The Kitsap Regional Library Foundation. Gifts of any size are appreciated. Your personal and financial information is kept confidential.
