Who can get a card?
Almost everyone who would like a KRL Library card can get one, including visitors, even visitors from out of state.
How can I get a card? Apply online or visit one of our nine Kitsap Regional Library locations or the bookmobile. To apply in person you will need current photo ID and proof of your current address. Apply online and you'll be notified when your item is ready for pick-up, in about two weeks.. The first time you use your new card to borrow library materials, you will be asked to show photo ID, and to confirm that your contact information is current.
Can children get a card? Yes, minors under the age of 18 can get a card. If not accompanied by a parent/guardian, the card will be mailed to their home. The parent/guardian's name will be entered in the minor's record. Parents/guardians may cancel a minor child's card, but the library must be informed in writing.
What if I lose my card?
If your library card is lost or stolen, report it immediately to any branch of the Kitsap Regional Library. You are responsible for all library materials checked-out on your card until you declare the card missing and have a stop placed on your record. If your card has been declared lost or stolen, the card will no longer work with our computer system.
If you declare your card missing or destroyed, you need to reapply for a new library card and pay in full all outstanding charges on your record.
Please let us know about any changes in your local address or telephone number.

Overdue Books and Fines
As a courtesy, KRL e-mails pre-date due notices to encourage prompt materials return. You can renew your materials up to two times providing there is not a hold on the item. Once the item is overdue, the fine will be $0.25 per day up to a maximum of $5.00 per item, per checkout. After 21 days, a billing notice for the amount of the item will be sent.
Accounts owing over $50, and past due over 60 days, will be contacted by a library materials recovery firm. Patrons with outstanding fines and fees may be restricted from borrowing library materials.
Renew your library materials online at www.krl.org.
Lost Books and Replacement Charges
You are responsible for any library materials checked out on your record. you will be charged for library materials you lose or damage.
Interlibrary Loan
What is an interlibrary loan? If you need a book, microfilm, or magazine article that isn't available at Kitsap Regional Library, you can request an Interlibrary Loan. Our library will try to locate the material in another library system that owns the item and is willing to lend it to Kitsap Regional Library.
How do I request an interlibrary loan? InterLibrary Loan Request Forms are available at all branch libraries and on the KRL home page. You must have a valid library card to request materials through InterLibrary Loan.
What can I request on InterLibrary Loan? You can request books and other print materials, magazine articles, microfilm and microfiche, as well as audio books, and non-fiction videos. Media items - such as entertainment videos, music CD's, and computer software - are not available through InterLibrary Loan. You can also complete a Book Request Suggestion Form for any current book or other item that the Library does not own.
How long does an InterLibrary Loan take? It takes about 4-6 weeks to process and receive a loan item or purchase request. It may take even longer depending on the type of the request and the location of material.
How long is the check-out period? The lending library determines the check-out period for an item received on InterLibrary Loan. It's sometimes much shorter than the standard 3-week period and the materials are often not renewable. If you want to renew an item, check with your branch librarian for help. Some loan items come with a restriction for 'Library Use Only'. In that case, you cannot check the item out and can use it only within the Library.
Does it cost anything to get an InterLibrary Loan? Kitsap Regional Library makes every effort to find free sources for InterLibrary Loans. If the only source available charges for loaning the materials, this cost is passed along to the patron.
The replacement charge for an InterLibrary Loan item is set by the lending library. Patrons are liable for any InterLibrary Loan items that are returned in a damaged condition, and for items that are returned with parts missing.
