2008 was great at the Poulsbo Library!
We look forward to a mighty fine 2009.
A big 'Thank You' to the City of Poulsbo...
for the new carpet in the library building. It's beautiful, durable, 'green', and made of easily replaceable squares. We have also reorganized some of our collection display shelving for easier acess. Stop by the Poulsbo branch to have a look, browse our collection, and let us know what you think!
Summer Reading Program 2008
581 kids and 67 teens completed at least 10 hours of reading for a total of 648 finishers. Well done. We are proud of you!
Reading Buddy Volunteers
made a big difference in the lives of families with young children this summer. Twenty volunteers ages 9 to 17 offered over 75 hours of service to our community through reading aloud to young children at our library. See photos of our volunteers in action below.
Popular demand means that we will bring our Reading Buddy program back next summer. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, we will offer an orientation in June 2009. Stay tuned.

The Friends support library activities, library staff and library customers in a variety of ways. They are especially interested in those related towards children and young adult reading, and the Inquiring Mind series. Memorial donations to the Friends are used to purchase special and appropriate books. The Friends were instrumental in helping to establish the library capital facilities area and supporting the successful levy. They helped both monetarily and with donated labor during the library enlargement and remodel. The downstairs meeting room space was finished primarily through the efforts of the North Kitsap Friends of the Library and other local service organizations. The room is scheduled and rented by many local groups through the city of Poulsbo ’s Parks and Recreation department. The art committee of the Friends selected art purchased by funds raised by the Friends to be placed throughout the library. They continue to add pieces for the enjoyment of all visitors to the library. The Friends helped with the landscaping around the library building, which was originally funded by a generous donor. Several of them continue to work diligently on the grounds.
Jason McDougall, Poulsbo Patron placed 2nd in the "What Book Changed My Life Essay Contest held during our One Community One Book event in October.
You never know who might step off the pages of a book or fairytale and serve you at the library.
