Q: How do I contact the library with questions or comments?
A: The library welcomes your questions, suggestions, compliments and complaints. To provide your feedback please use the following forms:

Q: How do I login to my account?
A: To log into your account to view information, place holds and renew your items, follow the instructions below and you will not have to enter your barcode or password again during this visit to the catalog.
- From the KRL home page, there are many options to get to the KitCat online catalog. Please select one of them.
- On the KitCat front page, locate the login area in the upper center portion of the page.
- Click in first box, enter your entire Library Card # (no spaces, all 14 numbers).
- Click in second box, enter your password.
- Click the button that says Login to your Library Account or press Enter.
You are now logged in to your personal account and the catalog will remember your library card information during your current online session. Be sure to log off before leaving the computer when you are finished.

Q: What is my password?
A: You selected a password when you opened your KRL library account. If you have forgotten your password, please contact the library either in person, by telephone, or use the Ask A Librarian form.
Q: Do I really have to user my entire 14-digit ID number to sign into the catalog to place a hold or look at my account?
A: Yes. Our catalog software requires the longer ID. .
Q: Why do I have to keep putting in my number repeatedly when placing holds?
A: You don’t! If you log-in to the library catalog using the log-in boxes in the upper center of the catalog home page before you start searching or performing other tasks, the system will remember your number for the current online session.
Q: How can I see what I have checked out or on hold in my account?
A: To see a list of your check outs, holds, or to change your password:
- Log-in to your library account then click on My Account in the top catalog menu.
- Click on Review My Account to view current checkouts, renew items, and view holds.
- Click on User Password Change to change your password.
Q: How do I place a hold (or reserve) an item?
A: To place a hold on an item:
- Find the item you want to request by using one of the searches listed below.
- Click on the Place Hold link to place the item on Hold or click on the Details/Hold button to first view the details of the item before placing it on hold.
- Click on the Place Hold link located in left menu under the image of the book cover.
- Make sure the correct pickup location is highlighted.
- Click on Place Hold. The hold you have placed will display on the screen. Click OK.
Q: What is the purpose of the Suspension start and end dates?
A: The Suspension start and end dates allow you to “postpone” your holds when you know you will be out of town. To suspend your holds:
- Click on My Account in the top menu.
- Click on Review My Account.
- Click on Edit Hold button next to item you wish to suspend.
- Use the calendar widget to enter both the start and end suspension dates. Both dates are required to complete the process.
Q: How can I renew materials?
A: To renew materials:
- Log-in to your library account then click on My Account in the top catalog menu.
- Select Review My Materials. A list of all your checkouts and holds will appear.
- To renew items, use the check boxes to mark items for renewal then click on the Renew Selected Items button located underneath the list.
Q: How can I get out of the catalog and return to the library web site?
A: To end your session in the catalog and return to the KRL home page click on the Logout button located in the menu bar.
Q: How do I search by title?
A: To search for an item in the library catalog by its title:
- Type in the complete title or part of the title in the space provided.
Example: The Catcher in the Rye or: Catcher Rye
- Click the Title button located just below the search box.
- Use the scroll bar on right side of the screen to view entire results list.
- Click the Next button in the tool bar to see additional pages of items.
- Click the Details/Hold button (next to each item) to view more information such as: its shelf location, whether it’s available for check-out, or to place a hold.
- To place a hold, click the Place Hold link located in the left menu under the item cover image.
- To read item reviews, click the Look Inside tab.
- To find related items, click the Catalog Record tab, and then click on the subject links.
- To return to your previous search results click on Go Back located in the menu bar.
- To perform a new search, click New Search on the menu bar.
Q: How can I search by author's name?
A: To find a specific author's books:
- Type in the author's name in the space provided.
Example: John Grisham or: Grisham John
- Click Author button located just below the search box.
- Use the scroll bar on right side of screen to view results list.
- Click the Next button in the tool bar to see additional pages of items.
- Click the Details/Hold button (next to each item) to view more information such as: its shelf location, whether it’s available for check-out, or to place a hold.
- To place a hold, click the Place Hold link located in the left menu under the book cover image.
- To read item reviews, click the Look Inside tab.

A: To find a list of items on a particular topic:
- Type in a word or phrase that describes what you are looking for
Example: woodworking
- Click the Words or Phrase button located just below the search box.
- Use the scroll bar on right side of screen to view the entire results list.
- Click the Next button in the tool bar to see additional pages of items.
- Click the Details/Hold button (next to each item) to view more information such as: its shelf location, whether it’s available for check-out, or to place a hold.

Q: What is the Email/Print buttom used for?
A: The Email/Print button allows you to create a temporary list of items searched.
- To create a temporary list, click on the Email/Print button next to the item you wish to save from your results list. This places the item in a temporary list.
- To remove an item from the list, click on the Remove button.
- To view your list, click on the Email/Print button located in the menu bar.
- To print your list, click on the Print Formatted button when viewing list.
- To email the list to yourself, enter your address in the Email field then click Email.
- Remember, this is a temporary list and it will be lost when your session ends.
Q: How do I search for an item by format such as: DVD, Compact Disc (CD), Audio Cassette, Video recording (VHS), or CD-ROM?
A: To search the collection for a particular format:
- Type in a word or phrase that describes what you are looking for.
Example: Bob Dylan
- Then add an “and” to your search phrase plus the format type. Example: Bob Dylan and compact disc.
- Click the Words or Phrase button located just below the search box.
- This search retrieves all Bob Dylan sound recordings in the library’s collection.
This type of search will work for any format. See the following examples:
- Greys Anatomy and dvd (retrieves all dvds of this popular television show)
- Louis L’Amour and cassette (retrieves all audio books on cassette written by L’Amour)
- Martha Grimes and disc (retrieves all audio books on Compact Disc (CD) by Grimes)
- Dancing and videocassette (retrieves all video recordings (VHS) on dancing)
- Microsoft Excel and cd-rom (retrieves all Microsoft titles with a cd-rom included)
Q: When would I use the Advanced Search option?
A: The Advanced Search option is useful when you need to narrow a long list of results. With the Advanced Search option you can narrow your search for an item by branch location, language, format, audience, or publication year.
* For example, the following search will produce an alphabetical list of fiction and non-fiction titles about China, for an adult audience, within the KRL downloadable audio book collection.
- Click on Advanced Search from the catalog home page.
- Enter the word China in the Subject field.
- Under Format choose downloadable material from drop-down menu.
- Under Audience choose Adult from drop-down menu.
- Under Sort choose Title from the drop-down menu.
Q: How do I search for a song title, a poem, or a short story?
A: Short stories, poems, and song titles are considered part of a larger work such as an author’s collection of works or music album. To find a “work within a work” you must search for the item title using the Words or Phrase button instead of the Title button.
- Type the short story, poem, or song title in the search box.
Example: The Gold Bug (by Edgar Allen Poe)
- Click the Words or Phrase button located just below the search box.
- Use the scroll bar on right side of screen to view results list.
- Click the Next button in the tool bar to see additional pages of items.
- Click the Details/Hold button (next to each item) to view more information such as: its shelf location, whether it’s available for check-out, or to place a hold.

- To find a complete listing of all the short stories, songs, or poems included in the larger work, click on the Catalog Record tab.
