How to Make Your Preschool Children's Visit to the Library the Most Effective
- Limit the length of your visit to one-half hour. This is about the length of time that young children can be expected to sit or play quietly.
- Stay with your children to supervise their reading or playing.
- Encourage your children's appropriate use of books, toys, and other
equipment.
- Speak to your children using a low voice. They will follow your example.
- Allow your children to be courteous
and thoughtful of other people.
- Ask your children to walk, not run.
- Remove your children if they become disruptive
or disturbed and return another day.
- Decide, prior to your visit, how many and what kinds of materials your children will be checking out and
discuss this with them before your visit. Prepared children are happier children.
