How to Make Your School-Age Children's Visit to the Library Successful

  • Limit the length of your visit to the library to suit your children's needs. Disruptive behavior usually results from an over-extended stay.
  • Decide, prior to your visit, on the number and kinds of materials that will be checked out. A prepared child is usually a cooperative one.
  • Encourage your children to be considerate of others using the library by speaking in a low voice, walking, playing quietly, and using materials and equipment in an appropriate manner.
  • Supervise your children. If you plan to use other areas of the library, please check in with your children at regular intervals and let them know where they can find you.
  • Inform your children of safety precautions such as not going with strangers. Library staff cannot supervise all areas at all times.
  • Encourage your children to ask for help in finding information or materials that they need. The first question is usually the most difficult one.
  • Please ask for any assistance. We are here to help.
