The Kitsap Regional Library Foundation will be hosting dinners and events with authors from romance writer Debbie Macomber to True Crime writer Gregg Olsen to children's author George Shannon, to name only a few of the nationally known authors who are excited to come talk to you. Children’s Author for the Holidays
Saturday, December 5

Poulsbo Library
Ticket Price: $10.00 per child
George Shannon will be reading stories from an array of titles that he has written over the years as wonderful and heartfelt children’s author. You will be able to enjoy some homemade Holiday cookies and ice cold milk as you cuddle with your child and listen to a master storyteller. Santa will also be on hand for a free photograph. Books will be made available for purchase and George can personally sign a copy for you for that added Christmas gift to add to any children’s library collection. Parents are free and children admission is $10.00 which includes your Santa photo and refreshments.

Ron Hirschi will be reading some of his stories which highlight the importance of protecting our natural environment, especially our oceans and streams. His vision is to share nature's beauty with kids while helping them to gain a sense of responsibility for their community and the environment as a whole. Stated best in Hawaiian, I hope kids gain a sense they can Malama i ke Kai- Protect the Ocean in a way you might protect your family and friends. Greg Bear is the author of more than thirty books of science fiction and fantasy, including BLOOD MUSIC, THE FORGE OF GOD, DARWIN'S RADIO, and QUANTICO. He is married to Astrid Anderson Bear and is the father of Erik and Alexandra. Awarded two Hugo’s and five Nebulas for his fiction, one of two authors to win a Nebula in every category, Bear has been called the “Best working writer of hard science fiction” by “The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Science Fiction.” Kathleen Alcala is an award winning author and her book The Desert Remembers My Name won the 2008 Latino International Book Award for best biography. The Seattle Times says that “Alcalá's life work has been an ongoing act of translation—not only between languages, but also between cultures. She has been building prismatic bridges not just between the Mexican and American cultures, but also across divides of gender, generation, religion, and ethnicity.”

Gregg will be prepared to talk to you about the book, the murder, and his next book about a murder which occurred in Port Orchard, due out in the summer of 2010. Rick Steves will be joining us for a conversation about his latest series on Iran and other areas in the world that are political “hot spots” for travel. Steves advocates independent travel. His books, radio and television shows deal with travel mainly, though not exclusively, in Europe, and are directed at an American audience. As host, writer and producer of the popular and long running Oregon Public Broadcasting television series Rick Steves' Europe, and through his travel books, he encourages Americans to become what he calls "temporary locals." He encourages his readers and viewers to discover not only major cities, but also cozy villages away from popular tourist routes.
