Q. What about the books that I have checked out?
All books checked out from the Port Orchard Branch (and only from the Port Orchard branch) now through closing on August 30th will have an extended check-out period, and will be due back at the beginning of November. DVDs with a 1-week check out period will have an extended check-out with November due dates beginning on August 24th.
Q. Can I return my books to the Port Orchard Branch during the closure?
No. The book drop will be locked and the branch will be non-functional.
Q. What if I don’t want my books until November?
We strongly encourage you to keep your books for the full check out period. If you must return them we ask that you return them to the Sylvan Way Branch in East Bremerton at 1301 Sylvan Way.
Q. Where will my holds go?
From August 16th on, you will no longer be able to choose Port Orchard as the location to pick up holds. If you have previously placed a hold, and it’s due to come in during the closure don’t worry. We have staff assigned just to handle this situation – you’ll receive a call from a friendly Port Orchard staffer who will send the hold to an alternative location of your choice, including one of the several Port Orchard Bookmobile stops (Park Vista Retirement Center, Sedgwick Albertsons, etc.), the Manchester Branch, or the Downtown Bremerton Branch, for example. Your book will then be held for 7 days following your alternative site selection.
Q. Will there still be a bookstore inside the library?
Yes! The wall dividing the bookstore from the rest of the library is coming down, and there will still be plenty of used books for sale, through the Friends of the Library, inside the library when we reopen. There won’t be a volunteer at the store, and books will be available for purchase during all open hours on the honor system.
Q. How is this project being funded?
This project is being funded by the City of Port Orchard, The Kitsap Regional Library, The Kitsap Regional Library Foundation, The Port Orchard Friends of the Library, South Kitsap Rotary, Kitsap Bank, The Fred Meyer Foundation, The Phil Grey Foundation, Rotary District 5020 and numerous patrons who have donated for this renovation.
Q. What about programming and story times?
While there won’t be any programming happening while the branch is closed, when we reopen we’ll be celebrating with a Renovation Celebration on Friday, November 1st from 5:00-7:00. We’ll resume a complete programming schedule in November.
Q. Where are staff going? Do you get a long vacation?
Port Orchard staff will be working at other library locations throughout the system, and then putting the library back together for our reopening.
