Express Yourself: Poetry Activities for Kids

It’s hard to believe that we are already a full week into April! April is one of my favorite months for many reasons, one of them being National Poetry Month. Reading poetry is one of my favorite past times, but writing poetry is an absolute favorite way for me to express myself and reflect on my thoughts.  As a kid, I was always busily scribbling away poems in a notebook, and it was a huge game changer when I discovered that poems don’t have to rhyme!

Master the literary arts at this thrilling and creative summer camp at the Poulsbo location. Work with a professional writing teacher to hone your literary skills over the course of a five-day camp! Write using literary prompts or continue to develop your own original writing. Learn from one-on-one consultations with the writing teacher and share your work in the writer's circle. Publish a literary magazine you can take home featuring your very own work. Snacks provided.

Join us for a fun, creative summer camp at the Library's Poulsbo location. Under the guidance of teen leaders, work with a group of other 4th - 8th graders to turn a hilarious children's book into a short film. Learn the filmmaking process from beginning to end including:

  • Script Writing
  • Set & Costume Design
  • Acting
  • Directing
  • Cinematography
  • Editing

Take home a copy of your creative masterpiece at the end of the camp. Snacks will be provided.

Learn how to write a sparkling query letter and get the right agent's attention, from novelist and publishing professional Stasia Ward Kehoe. Stasia Ward Kehoe grew up performing on stages from New Hampshire to Washington, DC. She holds a BA in English from Georgetown University and an MA in Performance Studies from New York University. Stasia now lives in Western Washington where she works as a freelance marketing consultant for trade publishers including Macmillan and Simon & Schuster, and writes young adult novels, including AUDITION and THE SOUND OF LETTING GO (Viking Juvenile).
