Good for a Laugh

When the long and wet winter days have me down, I like a little levity to lighten my mood.  If you're in the same winter-blues boat as me, come by the library to check out a comedy DVD, or checkout an entire season of sitcoms and have a laugh-athon!  Another great source for giggles?  Books, of course.  We have enough variety to tickle even the pickiest of funny bones, such as:

Reading About: Refugees

At the moment all things related to refugees, particularly from Syria, are up for debate and discussion.  All of us, no matter what age, have questions.  What makes a person become a refugee?  What is life like for them?  When my own understanding falls short, books help me bridge the gap.  Whether fiction or not, stories allow us to experience life from another person’s perspective.  Books are a great resource to share information and begin conversations, especially with children.

STEM: Not Just for School

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) has become an emphasis in many schools throughout the United States.You have probably noticed that here at Kitsap Regional Library, we offer STEM programs for children and teens. So why the push? Youth need to be grounded in these subjects as they start to navigate life in the 21st century, especially in their career paths. STEM jobs are steadily increasing and it is important that youth are prepared to successfully enter these professions.
