September's title is "My Bondage and My Freedom" by Frederick Douglass. The second autobiography written by Douglass, the narrative follows his transition from slavery into freedom. Published in 1855, six years before the start of the civil war, the book gives a glimpse into the mind of a scholar ten years after the writing of his first memoir. An important text in understanding the time leading up to the Civil War and the continued legacy of slavery in America.
