Every Sunday in April, stroll through Heronswood Garden for a fun and creative way to combine early literacy and a healthy activity. Presented in partnership with Heronswood Garden and the Port Gamble S'Klallam Foundation. Free entry.

All Abilities Fam Jam

The whole family is welcome for an afternoon of music and movement. If something more low-key is your jam, hide out in the crafting corner. To maintain social distancing, the music and movement portion will be limited to the first 20 participants. 

Virtual LEGO Builders

With our LEGO bricks, we'll work together to meet two different challenges that tie-in with a great book.  Participants will have the opportunity to share their creation.  

Idita-Read Challenge

Track your progress through the Iditarod, from Anchorage to Nome, and take your sled through the course at participating branches with each chapter you read. All kids are welcome to participate in the reading challenge; registration required for those who wish to attend Zoom events. Zoom activities on Fridays at 3 p.m. through March 18, with activity kits included. 

Port Orchard Idita-Read Fridays

Decorate your sled, learn about the race, and follow teams through the famous dogsled race. Track your progress through the Iditarod, from Anchorage to Nome, and take your sled through the course at the Port Orchard library with each chapter you read. Hybrid zoom/in-person program, capacity limited.

Take & Make Stained Glass Votive Holders

Create a bit of art over Spring Break with our Take & Make Stained Glass Votive Holder kit. Registration required for a kit that will be available for pick up March 30 -- April 5 during Library open hours.  Kit includes a glass votive holder, colored tissue paper, glue, and an electric tea light.

Storytime in the Park

Join us at Battle Point Park Picnic Shelter for an outdoor, socially-distanced storytime designed to build early literacy skills through stories, rhymes, songs and full-body movement. In partnership with Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District. Storytime cancelations will be posted at krl.org in the case of inclement weather.

Attendance will be limited to the first 20 youth and their caregivers to allow for social distancing and is first come, first served. Face coverings are required while visiting the Library and attending indoor programs.

Baby Storytime

Family Science Exploration: Light & Shadow

Join us in the branch for a special socially-distanced science exploration workshop about light and shadow, using curriculum from Leap into Science, engineered by The Franklin Institute. Leap into Science is a program designed to build interest and skills in science and literacy for children and their caregivers.  The program is designed to be self-directed, though we will begin together with a story. Science activities will be at separate stations around the room to allow for social distancing between families. Face coverings are optional.
