Kitsap Eco Kids: Plant One for the Pod

The time has come to plant the saplings you have been caring for along the banks of Clear Creek! There will be plenty of plants provided as well, so anyone can participate in Orca Recovery Day. By planting trees and native plants along Clear Creek we help salmon survive and local orca population thrive. Clear Creek Task Force naturalists will be on hand to direct the planting and provide tools. Masks are required for those unvaccinated at this event. To ensure we stay safely distanced, planting parties should be no larger than 5 people and arrive during the selected time slot. To reserve your planting party time, sign up through the link below.

Kingston Village Green StoryWalk®

Stroll through the pages of a story exploring the One Book, One Community theme of hope and resilience. On Saturdays in October, families can visit the Village Green Park to: engage with a story experience nature discover hope and resilience and more! After experiencing the StoryWalk® featuring the book Lubna and the Pebble by Wendy Meddour. Stop by the Kingston branch to pick up a take-home activity during open hours, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.  

Outdoor family storytime

Spark your child's love of learning with a socially-distanced outdoor storytime including stories, songs, rhymes and full-body movement designed to build early literacy skills and develop socio-emotional awareness. Meets in front of the Port Orchard branch. Bring your own blanket, and be aware that outdoor storytimes are weather-dependent. 

Heronswood Garden StoryWalk®

Every Sunday in September, stroll through Heronswood Garden and read "Seya's Song." Presented in partnership with Heronswood Garden and the Port Gamble S'Klallam Foundation. Free entry. Pick up an activity kit from the Little Boston branch during open hours for added fun.

Virtual LEGO Builders

With our LEGO bricks, we'll work together to meet two different challenges that tie-in with a great non/fiction book.  Participants will have the opportunity to share their creation.  

Opera Time with the Seattle Opera

Read and sing together with teaching artists from the Seattle Opera. Introduce concepts and spark discussion on self-esteem, empowerment, hope, and resilience. A sing-along, storytelling experience for the whole family of "Sulwe" written by Lupita Nyong’o and illustrated by Vashti Harrison.

Virtual Kids Book Club

Sharing stories of hope and resilience inspired by Clean Getaway by Nic Stone. Test your book knowledge by playing a round of trivia on Kahoot.
