Each June, we celebrate and honor the stories and work of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people that shape our country and history. Pride is celebrated in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, New York. The first Pride march in New York City was held one year after Stonewall, and three to five thousand people marched at the time. Today, millions march each year in NYC, and parades, picnics, and memorials take place all across the country.
Explore our collection of stories written by and about the LGBTQ+ community, attend a library event, and stop by our booth at the annual Kitsap Pride Festival on July 18 at Kitsap County Fairgrounds, Gordon Fields.
Aligned with our values of equity, service, and curiosity, Kitsap Regional Library proudly celebrates a range of heritage months throughout the year. Our goal is to honor and reflect the unique makeup of our community—with a focus on recognizing historically marginalized communities—and demonstrate that we are open to all.
